There will be no increase in the City’s stormwater user fee on this coming year’s SAWS bill, thanks in no small part to Councilman Carlton Soules. That means hundreds of dollars in savings for commercial and multifamily property owners, but it also means fewer street sweeps and mowing tours of the city’s drainage-related medians and channels. At this point, it must be said, the styrofoam cups and plastic bags that accumulate in the river in Brackenridge Park and along the Mission Reach swim into our vision.
The proposed increase amounted to 11.8 percent, and would have generated an estimated $4.5 million.
