Council juices projects on Broadway, Austin Highway

The City Council on Thursday gave away $10.1 million in economic development grants and waived nearly $1.2 million in SAWS impact fees for four projects that officials hope will help feed the revitalization of the Broadway corridor and Austin Highway.

The biggest beneficiary was Rio Perla Properties, re-developer of the Pearl Brewery complex. It’ll receive $3.1 million in grants and can clear $311,890 of its impact fees to San Antonio Water System for a mixed-use development it's planning between Karnes Street and Avenue A, on both sides of Pearl Parkway. The $35.8-million project will include 82 market-rate housing units, nearly 43,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space on the ground floor, and 44,000 square feet of office space on the next two floors.
