A few days before my scheduled installation of CPS Energy’s new Home Manager system, I got a call from a Utility Partners of America representative, who informed me that the installation would have to be postponed at least two weeks. The UPA employee vaguely indicated that CPS was slowing down the deployment process.
When I put in a call to CPS, their spokesperson told me that the Home Manager program saw higher than anticipated demand in July, following an advertising campaign that promises homeowners unprecedented control over their energy use, and potentially lower bills. According to CPS, Consert, Inc., which designed the web-based electricity management system, had some “slight hiccups” meeting the demand, but are now “back on track.” They installed 800 systems in San Antonio homes during the month of July, bringing the total installed base to about 3,000.
Since May, 9,000 customers have applied to join the program.
