A fracas in the canyon

Hidden Canyon is a pristine 128-acre spread of wildlife in the Stone Oak area, perched over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. If that sounds to you like the set-up for another North Side fracas over high-end home-building, the natural environment and neighbors who want to maintain their view of it – well, you're right. The canyon's zoned for residential development, and developers Rajeev Puri and Barry Pulliam intend to build some homes down there. With their zoning designation, they can build up to five units per acre, but the plan they filed with the City calls for density that's a little less than half the maximum. Still, expect lots of resistance from the four neighborhoods adjoining the canyon, such as Canyon Rim and Mesa Grande. We hear the email traffic so far has been ferocious.
