Another vanguard heads downtown Friday

The Texas Lyceum, the 30-year-old public-policy membership organization, is coming to town this week for a politically charged session on the state of Texas’ educational system and its implications for future economic growth. The title is thrilling, especially in dropout-prone SA: "Education, the Workforce and Prosperity. STATEWIDE LEADERS POSE THE QUESTION (emphasis theirs): Is Texas on the Path to Prosperity or Peril?"

The timing is weird: The full-day members- (and invitees) only convention kicks off Friday morning and runs straight on through the Battle of Flowers parade – sort of the heart and soul of Fiesta if you’re into the festival’s history. Sort of logistically a nightmare if you’re trying to get in or out of downtown for any other reason. The parade vanguard will head down Broadway at 11:50 a.m., just as the Lyceum's State of the State session is wrapping up.
