A handful of cameras click away and a gleaming Cynthia Hinojosa, dressed in an elegant midnight-blue evening gown, sash and crown, flashes an incandescent smile. Children and parents flock to be photographed near the reigning Mrs. Central Texas, a pageantry rank so insignificant it’s best equated to an online pastoral degree.
But today, San Antonio's West Side isn't so particular. The neighborhood is turned out for a screening of an episode of ABC's "Secret Millionaire," in which Advocates Youth Boxing Gym is awarded a substantial gift for its charitable work, and they'll take all the star power they can get.
Behind the beauty queen is the light-blue house that the love of boxing built. Blue awnings and red balloons surround the food and silent-auction booths.
"I'm here to support the cause," says Hinojosa, who's traveled from Stockdale with her husband and younger title-holders.
