Commissioner Sergio "Chico" Rodriguez and former Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos, his main rival in the May 29 Democratic primary, say there's an excellent reason we've seen so little blunt-force trauma in the Precinct 1 campaign season.
"People don't want to hear the negative stuff," says the 56-year-old Rodriguez, who's running for a third four-year term on the South Side. "It's different for the news media."
"I'm not out there bashing anybody," says 36-year-old Ramos, who left the City Council in December to challenge Rodriguez, six months after easily winning reelection. "[Voters] don't like candidates out there bashing each other."
