The Lege: Lost momentum


In July, San Antonio’s Alamo Colleges were recognized by the Achieving the Dream Foundation for their efforts to improve student success rates in five key areas, including the completion of college-level math and English courses and awarding associate’s degrees. Achieving the Dream is a nonprofit national network of community colleges that promotes the use of hard data to figure out why students — especially low-income and minority students — drop out or fail to complete school, and develop programs to address those obstacles.

Yet, the Alamo Colleges, like community colleges across the state, are facing potentially devastating budget cuts during this legislative session that are based in part on the notion that they are failing in their mission.
