In a move that should surprise no one, Ciro Rodriguez has announced that he is a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 23rd Congressional District.
Rodriguez has sharply criticized the interim Congressional redistricting map released last week by a three-judge federal panel in San Antonio, because it split the Harlandale Independent School District into three Congressional districts (35, 23, and 20). Given a choice he didn't want to make, however, he opted for District 23, the seat he held from 2007-2011. He was unseated in 2010 by San Antonio Republican Francisco "Quico" Canseco. In order to get a chance at a rematch with Canseco, Rodriguez must get past state Rep. Pete Gallego and local attorney John Bustamante in the May 29 Democratic primary.
