Torres wins former rival's support in District 117

Ken Mireles, who finished third in Texas House District 117's Democratic primary, threw his support behind Tina Torres on Thursday, looking to give the attorney a leg up in her run-off against former Councilman Philip Cortez.

Torres fell just 38 votes behind Cortez in the May 29 election – taking 34 percent of the vote to his 35 percent. Mireles, a former chief of staff to County Judge Nelson Wolff, drew the other 31 percent. A person close to Torres' campaign said talks between her and Mireles started election night.
